Over ten years tracking online jewelry retail, diamond grading systems, and the evolving lab-grown stone market across specialist publications, trade forums, and aggregated consumer review data.

The problem that built this site was a specific one: every engagement ring guide I encountered either stopped at Blue Nile and called it a day, or swung to the opposite extreme and treated luxury as a vanity tax with nothing worth saying about it. Neither stance serves the person standing in front of a $6,000 decision trying to understand why one Excellent-cut diamond looks different from another Excellent-cut diamond on paper. That gap — between the commodity summary and the genuinely informed comparison — is where DirectJeweler lives. I started pulling threads because the existing content wasn't pulling them, and the stakes for getting it wrong are too high to shrug at.

What I bring to this is pattern recognition built from years of reading: GIA and AGS grading reports, Whiteflash and Brian Gavin light-performance imagery, Brilliant Earth's sourcing disclosures, James Allen's 360-degree stone viewers, and the long tail of owner reviews on Reddit's r/Diamonds, Pricescope forums, and retailer review aggregators. I'm not a gemologist with a loupe — I'm the analyst who has read what the gemologists, the jewelers, and the buyers have written and can tell you where their conclusions converge and where they diverge. That distinction matters. It means my recommendations are grounded in what thousands of real purchases have taught the market, not in a single afternoon with a light box.
